What was the brief?

We wanted to refresh a 20-year-old kitchen and extend the space as we had to fulfill the needs of our growing family.

We had an integral garage that was not being used, so we wanted to utilise the space we had by extending into the original garage.

What is the nature of the property and the space?

Situated in Middlesbrough, the property is a 20-year-old modern build, 4 bedroom detached with an integral garage. The old kitchen was functional but not practical for our family.

Why was there a need for a change?

In addition to the requirements for more space due to our family, we also wanted to make the kitchen and more sociable cooking and living space.

How was colour and lighting used?

Our kitchen is in the centre of our property due to a previous extension. Because of this colour and lighting were very important to ensure that the space was light and airy.

Lighter coloured units were suggested by Roy, our designer, and larger windows were installed in the kitchen and utility space to bring in more light. Additionally we have spot lights, kick board lights and under unit lights which give an excellent result in terms of lighting provided and the final look.

Were there any challenges and if so how did you overcome them?

There weren’t any challenges during installation even though building works were included, walls moved, doors removed and windows installed. Any minor issues were dealt with immediately and the whole process from start to finish was very smooth. Court Homemakers managed the whole process for us including combining all of the trades required for the project.

What are the stand-out/your favourite features and why?

We don’t have a favourite feature – we love it all! The space has become an excellent social space for all of our family to enjoy and the quality of the kitchen, attention to detail and overall finish are superb!

Why did you choose Court Homemakers?

We chose Court Homemakers because we previously had a bathroom and en-suite fitted by the company. Both of these installations were handled very professionally from start to finish and the standard of work is very high. We knew instantly we wanted the same professional approach and installation for our kitchen.
