Mr and Mrs Williams live in a four-bedroom house and decided they wanted to add a bathroom and an additional multi-functional room that could serve as an additional bedroom if necessary on the ground floor. This meant moving the existing kitchen into what was the dining room, creating the new room/bedroom where the old kitchen had been and converting the existing utility room into a new bathroom. Quite a lot of work!
We asked Mr and Mrs Williams to answer some questions about the work…
Were there any challenges with this project?
To facilitate the plan building work was required, which included the removal of a supporting wall, which in itself, presented challenges. It was also necessary to construct a new internal wall and to block up, what was, the external back door.
What are your favourite features and why?
Having the kitchen adjoining the conservatory now makes a real difference to us as it really opens up the space. The centre island offers additional workspace, houses the sink, and we just love the 3-in-1 feature tap being where it is as it really shows it off to best effect. Tying the flooring in with the marble effect worktop really works too. We have Michael, our designer, to thank for that. Michael also suggested the corner pantry, which is perfect for storing literally everything. We also love the extremely large cutlery drawer and the fact that our washer and dryer, although still in what was the utility, are now both hidden from view in our lovely new shower room.
How was colour and lighting used?
We wanted white in the kitchen and painted two of the walls lime green to show off the units to best effect. The kitchen is really light and bright anyway, so we just went with ceiling lights in there. We decided on grey being the main colour for the bathroom. The walk-in shower has lighting built into the wall, which is a real feature.
Why did you choose Court Homemakers?
Initially, Michael listened to what we wanted and came up with a design that not only met our expectations, but surpassed them. We knew Court Homemakers could do everything, the whole job from start to finish, and because we wanted someone else to just take control of the whole project, they were an obvious choice for us. As it turned out, everything was managed seamlessly. We are over the moon with the end result and really we can’t recommend them highly enough.
